Notes: L-band (18/21cm) NME and ftp fringe test for Session 1, 2022.
          1024 Mbps, L+R, 2-bit sampling, 8 BBC, 32 MHz filters
          MER: 512 Mbps, L+R, 2-bit sampling, 2 BBC, 64 MHz filters

COVER LETTER:

This is the schedule for the 18cm NME and ftp fringe-test on February 24, 2022
involving 14 EVN antennas + eMERLIN + FAST:
Jb1, Wb, Ef, Mc, Nt, O8, T6, Ur, Tr, Hh, Sv, Zc, Bd, Ir, Cm, Da, Kn, Pi, De, Fa.

The NME uses a standard setup with 1024 Mbps (512 Mbps for eMERLIN).

The schedule has two segments:
12:00-14:15  long scans on J0237+2848 with ftp grabs every other scan (18cm setup);
14:20-15:00 a long scan on J0730+4049 with an ftp grab then alternating short scans on
J0730+4049 and J0727+4052 with an ftp grab in scans 17 and 23 (21cm setup).

The following ftp-fringe tests are scheduled throughout the experiment (UT times):

12:10:00 (scan 2, 2 sec, J0237+2848, 18cm setup)
12:40:00 (scan 4, 2 sec, J0237+2848, 18cm setup)
13:10:00 (scan 6, 2 sec, J0237+2848, 18cm setup)
13:40:00 (scan 8, 2 sec, J0237+2848, 18cm setup)
14:10:00 (scan 10, 2 sec, J0237+2848, 18cm setup)
14:25:00 (scan 12, 2 sec, J0730+4049, 21cm setup)
14:41:00 (scan 17, 2 sec, J0730+4049, 21cm setup)
14:56:00 (scan 23, 2 sec, J0730+4049, 21cm setup)

Thank you for taking part in this NME.

With kind regards,

Gabor Orosz

EFFECT OF SOLAR CORONA

The solar corona can cause unstable phases for sources too close to the Sun.
SCHED provides warnings at individual scans for distances less than 10 degrees.
The distance from the Sun to each source in this schedule is:
    Source Sun distance (deg)
   J0237+2848 71.0
   J0730+4049 129.6
   J0727+4052 129.1

Barry Clark estimates from predictions by Ketan Desai of IPM scattering sizes
that the Sun will cause amplitude reductions on the longest VLBA baselines
at a solar distance of 60deg F^(-0.6) where F is in GHz.
For common VLBI bands, this is:
       327 MHz 117. deg
       610 MHz 81. deg
       1.6 GHz 45. deg
       2.3 GHz 36. deg
       5.0 GHz 23. deg
       8.4 GHz 17. deg
      15.0 GHz 12. deg
      22.0 GHz 9. deg
      43.0 GHz 6. deg
