sources:
--------

MG0414 target gravitational lens = J0414+0534
own position between the four images

from the VLBA calibrator survey:
http://www.vlba.nrao.edu/astro/calib/

J0412+0438 = 0409+045 compact phase-ref 0.16Jy at 1.07deg distance
alternative "phase-ref" source for Arecibo bit
J0422+0219 = 0420+022 compact phase-ref 1.02Jy at 3.85deg distance
                       standard "phase-ref" source
J0409+1217 = 0406+121 compact phase-ref 1.02Jy at 6.84deg distance
good fringe-finder for Arecibo before MG0414

from the VLBA fringe-finder surcey:
http://www.aoc.nrao.edu/~analysts/vlba/ffs.html

3C84 = J0319+4130 strong on short baselines, unpolarised
0528+134 = J0530+1331 good fringe-finder, close to sun
                       good for Arecibo after MG0414
DA193 = J0555+3948  good fringe-finder, also for D-terms,
                    maybe even polarisation p.a.

3C286 for VLA only to calibrate absolute flux and maybe pol. p.a.

General strategy: Alternate between target MG0414 and "phase-ref"
J0422+0219 with a ~15 min cycle. This is no full phase-referencing.
Once an hour observe one of the bright fringe-finders/calibrators
3C84, 0528+134, DA193.
Longer scans (target and fringe-finder sources) are split into two with a gap
between them. Shorter scans (phase-ref) have the gap at the end with a
minimum-duration (15sec) dummy scan afterwards.
Gaps are mostly 20sec. According to SCHED, Hh does not reach the source within
20sec, but since there are no slews at the gaps, this is not a problem. The
SCHED warning about TSYS measurements not being on source for Hh can be
ignored.

We do not use gaps at the beginning of scans in order to avoid having to wait
for the slowest station before TSYS can be measured.

No gaps after 17:00 when we only have VLBA and VLA27.

Special strategy for the 2.5h with Arecibo:
Start with J0409+1217 as "fringe-finder". Then alternate between MG0414 and
alternative phase-ref J0412+0438 (closer to target but weaker). At the end
(when MG0414 is not accessible from Arecibo anymore), go to 0528+134.

Thanks!

The solar corona can cause unstable phases for sources too close to the Sun.
SCHED provides warnings at individual scans for distances less than 10 degrees.
The distance from the Sun to each source in this schedule is:

Barry Clark estimates from predictions by Ketan Desai of IPM scattering sizes
that the Sun will cause amplitude reductions on the longest VLBA baselines
at a solar distance of 60deg F^(-0.6) where F is in GHz.
For common VLBI bands, this is:
       327 MHz 117. deg
       610 MHz 81. deg
       1.6 GHz 45. deg
