COVER LETTER:


An L-band observation of the 3C 66 field in order to try
a multiple simultaneous phase center capability of the SFXC
software correlator. The targets were chosen to both provide
us with a useful test dataset and because of their potential
scientific interest. This dataset would be especially useful
for trying a "blind" search of compact sources -- a method
of processing the entire primary beam area of a VLBI observation
using a distributed search algorithm.

Two sources

3C66A = J0222+4302

3C66B = J0223+4259

and a position in between them

3C66MID

are observed.

Since both 3C66A and 3C66B are bright sources, no
observation of additional calibrators/fringe-finders
is necessary.

The observation time is split in half between observing
the "nothing" midpoint and tilting from 3C66A to 3C66B
in order to determine if pointing far off source offers
any (dis)advantages for a multi phase center experient.
